Anthony Gordon is reportedly considering a summer transfer to Liverpool.
The rumours linking Anthony Gordon to Liverpool don’t seem to be going away anytime soon, as speculation about where the Newcastle United winger will play football come season’s opening persists.
At the end of June, with Newcastle trying to earn money to meet Profit and Sustainability regulations—which they eventually assisted in achieving with the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh—the Reds were given the opportunity to sign Gordon.
Liverpool was informed that Gordon was considered for sale, but a return to Merseyside was not realised following the Magpies’ insistence that Jarell Quansah go the other way. Since then, it has come to light that the Reds attempted to seal a deal for the English winger by offering Joe Gomez, but it fell through.
The Reds are still quite interested in Gordon, even if it’s unclear if the 23-year-old will stay at Anfield given that Mohamed Salah is about to enter the final year of his current contract and there are questions over Luis Diaz’s long-term future.
Despite playing for England at Euro 2024, Gordon has managed to keep quiet about his future in recent weeks. However, he has since provided followers with an update on social media. The forward posted a number of pictures from his summer vacation on Instagram.
A book titled “The seven habits of highly effective people” is depicted in one of Gordon’s posts, indicating the former Everton star is still committed to furthering his growth as a person and a player. Jude Bellingham, who has previously been linked to a transfer to Liverpool, was one of the people who commented on this social media post. He simply wrote a heart emoji for his England teammate without adding any comments.
In the upcoming weeks, Liverpool might put Newcastle’s commitment to the test, even though manager Eddie Howe has lately stated his position about a possible sale. Howe remarked, “If I had three arms, I’d welcome Anthony back.”
He plays a crucial role in our work. Over the summer, we haven’t had any tense or unpleasant conversations. He has always been the Anthony Gordon who has given Newcastle everything, and I want everyone who supports us to know that.
Anthony needs a little vacation, but he’ll be refreshed and ready to go when he returns. He plays such a significant role in our team. Nobody was to be lost, we hoped. Is it really our goal to lose our greatest players? It was extremely, incredibly tough in those final few weeks, but we battled really hard to make the right choices.
“The final few weeks of June were quite challenging. We were unsure of what would happen, and there was a great deal of uncertainty. We were forced to follow the regulations even if we didn’t want to. To be clear, none of the players we sold was something we wanted to sell. Not at all. Why would we wish to offload any of our young, talented players? We’ve spent a lot of time getting to know Elliott, so it felt wrong and went against what we all felt was the club’s culture.”
