Former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema talked to Marca about his life after leaving the club, what he thinks of the current Real Madrid team, and who he thinks should win the Ballon d’Or.
About how Real Madrid is doing right now
“Yes, that’s right, Real Madrid had a great season. There is no better team in the world than Real Madrid. Every player comes and goes, but Real Madrid will always be the best. As long as it works, it will be the best.
Being there to see Real Madrid win the Champions League
“Going to see Real Madrid win the Champions League final? Happiness. Plenty. I will always support Real Madrid and my friends because they are my team. It makes sense. Real Madrid is Real Madrid, and that’s what makes it special.
Looking at the Current Team
“Last season, they played powerful football, which is why they won the League and the Champions League.” I don’t think any other team can beat Real Madrid right now.
The Candidate for the Ballon d’Or
When the subject of the Ballon d’Or came up, Benzema didn’t think twice about picking his favorite player for the award. He picked out Vinicius Junior and talked about how much the young player had helped over the last two seasons.
“Golden Globe?” I’m going to pick Vinicius because he deserves it for his season, not just this year but also last year. He was the best at football and what he does with the ball than anyone else. “He’s a kid, a real football player.”
“He can win a game by himself, with or without his teammates, but he is great when Real Madrid needs him, which is why I think he does deserve it. He always shows up and is always there. Even so, Vini is my favorite.
