On the day when the German team lost to Spain, Kai Havertz squandered a fantastic opportunity to exact revenge for custodian Unai Simon’s error.
In the quarterfinals of EURO 2024, the German squad pounded the goal known as “La Furia Roja” 23 times, its rivals Spain. But only five of “Die Mannschaft’s” shots were on goal.
Kai Havertz was not an exception to the home team’s lacklustre offensive on this particular day. The most regrettable of the four chances the Arsenal player squandered to score came in the 82nd minute.
Havertz’s opportunity to score came from a passing fault made by custodian Unai Simon. The ball sailed over the crossbar and out of bounds when number seven, “Die Mannschaft,” attempted to press the ball over the head of the opposing guard.
Many fans were reminded of Danny Welbeck by Havertz’s horrendous attempt. Welbeck was a striker who frequently opted to press the ball as a finishing option but did not always attain great accuracy.
The Arsenal player also had a shot that went towards Unai Simon’s goal in the first half of the game against Spain. The shot could not be turned into a goal, though, because it was weak and lacked focus.
At EURO 2024, Kai Havertz became the first player to hit ten shots on goal. But Germany’s seventh player managed just two goals. Players born in 1999 scored both of their goals via penalty kicks.
Additionally, Havertz’s passing accuracy rate from last night was only 77.3%. Waldemar Anton replaced the “Gunners” pillar in the 89th minute, and Anton went on to close out the EURO 2024 finals with two goals and one assist.
