‘100% convincingly’: Real Madrid wonderkid completed excellently ‘national mission’ for Turkey when creating ‘FIRE’ performance collabing with Demiral in victory vs Austria

With an exciting 2-1 win over Austria in Leipzig on Tuesday night, Turkey claimed their spot in the quarterfinals of Euro 2024.

The game may go down in history as the best of the event because Merih Demiral scored the first goal after only 57 seconds. In the second half, the centre back was having a dream come true when he doubled Turkey’s lead from another Arda Guler corner.

Austria didn’t give up easily. In the 66th minute, Michael Gregoritsch scored to make it a 1–1. To be honest, Mert Gunok’s amazing goalkeeping and the Turkish backline’s frantic defence were the only things that stopped Ralf Rangnick’s team.

Austria vs Turkey player ratings

Italy (4-2-3-1)

Patrick Pentz: 4/10 He didn’t get any praise for Turkey’s first goal. The only thing that saved him was that he got every pass, but that doesn’t help if you don’t know your box.

Stefan Posch: 7/10—He was unlucky to be hit by the ball from close range when Turkey scored their first goal. Quickly recovered to give Austria a great offensive outlet, making a game-high five chances, including setting up Gregoritsch’s goal.

Kevin Danso got a 5/10 because Demiral beat him in the air for the second goal, ending an otherwise good game.

4/10 for Philipp Lienhart. He was just as much to blame for Turkey’s second goal and looked like he was ready to get sent off after getting a yellow card. Rangnick made the right choice by pulling him.

Philipp Mwene – 6/10 – Did his best to give Austria a chance in the final third, but it didn’t quite work out. Given up at halftime because Rangnick changed his strategy.

6.10 for Konrad Laimer. At least he tried to get into the Turkish goal area, so it wasn’t his best game in an Austrian shirt. He should have been taken off, though.

7/10 for Nicolas Seiwald. Being good with the ball and trying to keep Austria moving forward. He kept an eye out for loose balls in the middle and recovered seven of them, intercepted two, and made two stops.

6/10 for RAustria 1-2 Turkey: Turkey book last quarterfinal spot as Demiral nets brace| All Football. Could make some good throws from set pieces, but not as good in open play. Taken off at halftime.

5/10 for Christoph Baumgartner. Was actually a threat the whole game, but got a bad grade because he missed a few good chances and didn’t clear the ball for Turkey’s first goal.

7.10 for Marcel Sabitzer A little limited in open play, but always looks like he can deliver a dangerous set piece, like the corner that led to Austria’s goal.
