One of Gareth Southgate’s players was angry with the choice he made against Slovakia.
Gareth Southgate said that one of the England players was “disgusted” by the choice he made in their big win over Slovakia.
English beat Slovakia 2-1 in an exciting game to move on to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024.
Before Harry Kane put the Three Lions ahead in extra time, Jude Bellingham scored an amazing goal to tie the game.
After the game, Declan Rice got into a fight with Francesco Calzona, the manager of Slovakia. His friends had to hold him back.
Gareth Southgate told ITV that he left a player “disgusted” by the choice he made in Gelsenkirchen after the come-from-behind win.
He added Ivan Toney with one minute left in the game and said that the late entrance made him “disgusted.”
“It’s weird, but I never thought tonight would be the last game of our tournament.” Even with the long throw, you thought, “We can make a mess, and something might fall.” Southgate said, “I didn’t think the finish would be quite what it was.”
“Ivan Toney was clearly very angry when I brought him on with a minute to go. I think we’ve made up now, but he made a big difference, and he also set up the second goal.”
“Your sub comes on at that point; it’s the last chance, and he might not even touch the ball.”
“Yes, I totally get it.” “I don’t like putting a player in that situation, but we thought he might be able to cause the chaos that happened.”
Toney came on for Phil Foden very late in their last-16 match.
He played in his first game of the event, and he got more experience in extra time.
He also made a huge difference in extra time by setting up Kane.
Toney did a great job of directing Eberechi Eze’s shot into the path of the Bayern Munich forward, who scored.
The star player from Brentford could play when England’s Euros quest resumes next Saturday when they play Switzerland.
