After the final whistle in Gelsenkirchen, the two got into an altercation on the pitch.At the end of extra time, Calzona had rushed onto the pitch to confront referee Umut Meler.But when he got closer to the official, Rice was seen telling Calzona not to worry.In response, the Slovakian manager shoved Rice, and then another coach shoved the England player out of the way.Ramsdale then had to restrain an enraged Rice as his teammates defused the situation.Following the game, Calzona was questioned about the incident.”Rice was supposed to go to the referees and leave,” he told reporters.He persisted after I asked him to talk with the referees. However, after he apologised, everything was OK.”He went on, “I didn’t like the way the England team was wasting time and wasn’t punished,” in reference to England’s shenanigans in the closing moments.The Slovakian manager took over at Euro 2024, his first big event in that role, having taken over in 2022.He also spent the last three months of the season balancing his job with a role as Napoli boss.Under Maurizio Sarri, the Italian served as the team’s assistant manager from 2015 to 2018.After playing the entire 90 minutes and overtime, Rice is still a constant for England in Germany.The 25-year-old will probably start for his team against Switzerland on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
