After suffering an odd injury during Scotland’s match against Switzerland in the Euro 2024, Kieran Tierney, an Arsenal defender, was brought out on a stretcher.
Tierney found himself on the wrong side of Swiss attacker Dan Ndoye as he resumed his position for the Scots. The 27-year-old overstretched and seemed to injure his left hamstring as he broke towards goal.
Before the restart, the game was delayed while he received care since he was in excruciating pain. However, the Arsenal player understood right once that his night was done and he motioned for a replacement.
Depending on the severity of the injury, Tierney, who was carted off the pitch on a stretcher, is probably going to miss the rest of the group stages and possibly the entire competition.
During his game commentary for BBC Five Live, former Scotland star Pat Nevin responded to his countryman’s horrific injury. “I think it had gone just before the jar (into the turf), and that is why it jarred because he had to straighten out his foot,” he continued.
“The thing about Kieran is he gave you that pace, he was covering really well and was reading the play.”He appeared to be moving at the fastest rate of his career. Kieran has suffered the worst injury luck of his career right as he is starting to look his best once again.”
Tierney played for Real Sociedad on loan during the previous season, making 27 matches. Reports state that although the La Liga outfit is not expected to sign the Scotland international this summer, an Emirates Stadium departure is still likely.
Real Sociedad tweeted, “Get well soon Kieran Tierney,” along with an emoji of a praying man, in spite of this.
According to reports that circulated earlier on Wednesday, Newcastle United is not thought to be among the teams interested in a potential permanent or temporary exit. The severity of the injury may force Mikel Arteta to scrap his plans to move the defender.
