Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, received a call-up to the Norwegian national team after the season. In addition, he made time to play a charity match alongside his girlfriend and the Norwegian Royal Family.
The day after guiding his country to a 3-1 victory against Cyprus, Odegaard took part in an annual charity tournament at the Skaugum estate. Odegaard participated in all ninety minutes of Norway’s Euro 2024 qualifying match against Cyprus and Scotland.
Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and his spouse, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, reside on the estate. They included Odegaard and his partner, Helene Spilling, a professional ballerina.
They were joined by Norwegian women’s footballers Maren Mjelde and Guro Bergsvand, who play for Chelsea and Brighton in the Women’s Super League, respectively, and Jan Age Fjortoft, a former forward for Sheffield United and Middlesbrough.
The handicapped football squad Bon Unified ultimately triumphed 7–6 over Odegaard’s team. “We said, ‘We gave it everything, but they made it difficult for us,’ after the game.” We have already visited this location, and it is quite amazing. Football is a game that anybody can play.
“It was fun to hang out with everyone here. It was fun. They delivered, had clear goals, and made valuable contributions, so it was pleasurable. When asked about his partner’s performance, he answered, “She can work a bit with throw-ins, but beyond that there was a lot of will and she gave everything she could.”
Simultaneously, Spilling ridiculed Odegaard’s “so bad” football game and her “actually quite good on the dance floor.” “Actually, we had a plan for him to dribble all together, but it doesn’t work when the girlfriend—that is, me—is that bad,” she said.
We’ve made a few attempts at dancing, and he’s really rather good! Right now, I think I have a better impression of him on the dance floor than I do of myself. And on social media after the game, Fjortoft showered the Bon team with accolades.

“Bøn FK was a great team today,” he wrote. Being able to present the family—the big football—feels fantastic! They train once a week and have only suffered two losses this season. One of their players, Lars, scored four goals in the match.
Odegaard intends to guide Arsenal’s run for the Premier League title again the next year, having admitted earlier this month that the team’s defeat to Manchester City for the championship “still stings.” He said, “I tried not to see so much of that stuff there because it hurts.” I try not to think about it too much. We had a great season for a while, but I have a bad feeling.
