With two games remaining, Pickford already has 12 clean sheets, making Raya’s record already untouchable. In 29 league games this season, Raya has preserved 14 clean sheets for Arsenal. Right now, Raya is with Arsenal on loan from Brentford.
The Premier League awarded David Raya, the goalkeeper for Arsenal, the Golden Glove trophy when his record of 14 shutouts became unbreakable.
Raya has 14 clean sheets in 29 league outings for Arsenal this season.
His greatest rival, Jordan Pickford, was unable to keep Everton’s record spotless against Luton Town this evening, as his club ended up drawing 1-1.
With two games left for Everton and 12 clean sheets thus far, Pickford can only match Raya, who still has three games left for Arsenal.
Raya becomes the first goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove at Arsenal since Petr Cech done it in the 2015β16 season with 16 clean sheets while leading Arsenal to second place in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta would feel vindicated considering his goaltender’s record of clean sheets this season. Arsenal’s manager came under fire after Raya, who signed a season-long loan from Brentford in August, replaced Aaron Ramsdale.
Ramsdale had played in all 38 of Arsenal’s Premier League games the previous season and had 14 clean sheets.
But beginning in September, Raya became Arteta’s unquestionable first choice in goal, and he maintained that role even after he made two mistakes in Arsenal’s 4-3 victory against Luton Town in December.
He became a hero after he saved two penalties in Arsenal’s shootout victory over Porto in the UEFA Champions League, sending his team to the quarterfinals.
