GREAT MISSION: Arsenal star Leandro Trossard opens Belgian Red Court in hometown to unite old and young people

Leandro Trossard is currently playing well at Arsenal FC. The Red Devils achieved their greatest success in Belgium at Racing Genk. Today he returns to his football roots and, together with mayor Wim Dries, opens the second Belgian Red Court on the territory of Limburg.

Thanks to these social football fields, KBVB wants to unite old and young people through football, making the sport more accessible and promoting social cohesion in Genk.

KBVB has been converting old football pitches into modern tiny football temples since 2022. Proximus, Adidas, and National Lottery players help it in doing this. Following Lier, Hasselt, Sint-Niklaas, Lokeren, and Waregem, the city of Genk currently holds the distinction, with Hobbyland receiving the Red Court. And the story doesn’t end there. There will be forty Red Courts in the upcoming years.

At Genk, the Red Devils and former Racing Genk captain Leandro Trossard will take on the position of ambassador. Trossard played 120 games for Racing Genk and helped the club win the title in 2019. Today Trossard kicked a ball with mayor Wim Dries and the youth of Genk, thereby declaring the Genk Red Court open.

“As a football player, I owe Genk a lot. I experienced great moments with both the youth team and the first team. I’ve been playing abroad for a few years but the people of Genk clearly haven’t forgotten me. They always welcomed me with open arms. I’m happy to be able to give something back to the city that has given me so much. Perhaps a future Red Devil will soon kick his first ball on this Red Stadium, although I especially hope that it will become a gathering place for the people of Genk. ” – Leandro Trossard expressed

The opening ceremony of the Red Stadium in Genk is also the starting signal for many activities on the decorated football field. For example, soccer matches are organized but other soccer activities are also organized to promote social cohesion in the city, including in partnership with local non-profit organization Gigos.
