Jude Bellingham’s initial touch before Rodrygo’s goal against Manchester City was superb.
In their Champions League quarterfinal matchup, Real Madrid and City drew 4–4 on aggregate. The match was finally decided on penalties, advancing Real to face Bayern Munich in the semifinals. Carlo Ancelotti’s team did had a great start to the second leg as Rodrygo took them the lead in the twelfth minute.
Many people concentrated on Bellingham’s contribution to the goal, as he latched a long ball out of the sky with a brilliant first touch, but the Brazilian forward also scored on a rebound after Ederson had saved his first attempt.
When talking about the goal, World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro told Amazon Prime, “It’s the first rule of football, the first touch.” “Bellingham demonstrated a strong personality. First touch, clever dribble, wonderful goal.
“We had already stated that City would find it difficult to pass quickly and in these conditions. The entire Madrid assault was excellent. After Madrid’s initial save, City was a little unlucky as Madrid scored a crucial goal.”
While making a commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live, former City goalkeeper Shay Given also praised Bellingham’s touch, saying: “I feel for Ederson as he makes a worldie save, but he had no chance on the rebound.”
“Jude Bellingham drifted forward and he was the furthest Real Madrid player forward, he took a brilliant touch and then played it wide.” Meanwhile, a fan posted on social media, saying: “The touch from Bellingham.” Extremely impure.
Several other supporters voiced their opinions on social media, with one writing: “That Jude Bellingham touch during Rodrygo’s goal play is completely ridiculous. Although it will be disregarded, magic exists.”
Another said, “I could watch this over and over all day.” “Sent Rodri to the shop,” wrote a third person. Another was added: “The first touch from Bellingham to make this goal is absolutely filthy.”
In the 76th minute, City’s Kevin De Bruyne equalized the score, sending the match into extra time and penalties. Antonio Rudiger eventually scored the winning spot kick for Real, eliminating the reigning champions.
