After only two minutes, the Brazilian winger gave Madrid the lead and again proved to be in the perfect location for the 70th-minute winner as Madrid overcame a spirited Osasuna to win their first Copa del Rey in nine years. As part of Rodrygo’s celebration following the winning goal, a lovely tribute was made to an eight-year-old youngster who had just overcome illness.
“I dedicated it to Nacho, a kid I visited at Juegaterapia, which is a place that cares for children with illness,” Rodrygo said in a press conference following the game. I went over to visit them and give them a couple of gifts. The second goal was for Ignacio since he asked me to make the “I” for him if I scored.
Rodrygo had been moved by the boy’s story of recovery, which began when the Brazilian recently visited the foundation and they became friends over FIFA games. He delivered on his promise to produce an incredibly touching and unique occasion.
