After Tuesday’s 3–3 draw, Manchester City will believe they have the upper hand in their Champions League quarterfinal matchup against Real Madrid.
The visitors had two leads and could have been a little frustrated not to win as they return to Manchester. Jude Bellingham was one player who was clearly agitated.
Ruben Dias fairly upended the England player in the first half, but the Real star objected to the tackle. He was also upset that referee Francois Letexier blew up for time when the hosts got a throw-in deep in City territory and felt he should have been given a penalty in the second half.
This infuriated Bellingham, who confronted the official at full time and objected to his choice to blow when he did, appearing to be mouthing “no way, no way” to Letexier. On the touchline, Carlo Ancelotti conversed briefly with the fourth official as well.
Despite trailing twice, Real will believe that they have an uphill task at the Etihad next week. Within two minutes, Bernardo Silva’s deft, fast free kick had placed City ahead, but the hosts led 2-1 at the half thanks to goals from Dias, a deflected Rodrygo strike, and an own goal.
A brilliant goal from Phil Foden tied the score on minute 66, and five minutes later, City took a 3-2 lead thanks to an even greater goal from Josko Gvardiol, his first for the team. But Federico Valverde’s magnificent shot leveled the score once more, sending the match back to the Etihad.
